The Wolven
General Information

Racial Name: Grr~Graath (the "Grr" is pronounced as a growl simultaneous with Graath) The Wolven are a race of bipedal, sapient canids. Their appearances vary greatly, ranging from the most common lupine (wolf-like) type through vulpine (fox-like) and many different varieties of appearance similar to breeds of Earth's domesticated dogs. However, the similarities are largely skin-deep. Wolven reach maturity quickly in comparison to most species (such as humans), reaching adulthood in usually six cycles (8 TSY). As well, they age very quickly in the final two to four cycles (3-5 TSY) of their lives. This means they spend much of their lives as youthful, vital individuals. Wolven tend to build their cities in forests, especially where trees are of sufficient size to support buildings. Most major towns and cities are almost entirely suspended in the trees, sometimes hundreds of feet from the ground. |

Byrch Lestrand Huntress Age: 20 cycles (26 TSY) Byrch was born into a fairly wealthy hunting family, and learned quickly how to track, displaying an almost natural talent for it. It is no surprise then that she found a young Wyllo Orendus when playing in the forest one day. When she heard of the freshly-orphaned pup's plight, she took him back to her family. Following in her parents' pawprints, she trained at tracking and fighting, eventually garnering the title of Huntress. She also developed a talent as a diplomat, becoming a respected mediator among her people. The shield she carries was in fact a gift from a Rossass general, a show of gratitude for her part in negotiating a truce between two feuding tribes. Despite her overarching sense of fairness and honour, she has a volatile, fiery temper. |

Koriak Borno of Wolvera Age: 46 cycles (61 TSY) Koriak earned his title "of Wolvera" for his vaunted heroics during the first Wolven War. However, his once noble warrior's spirit has given way to ambition and ruthlessness, though few can fathom why. He has rallied support to himself by use of propaganda, portraying the Wolven as having an inborn right to rule because of their "superior abilities". While Koriak is a tactical genius, he is despised for his strategies and machinations, even by some of his own loyalists. Not bound by any solid ethics, Koriak's strategies often ignore the unspoken rules of battle, utilizing stolen technology and dirty tricks to achieve victories. Those who knew Koriak before he took power describe an abrupt change in how the old wolf acted, shifting rapidly from a noble hero to a malevolent dictator. There are rumours that Koriak is being possessed by a demon, as a possible explanation of his actions. |

Napu Semhet Deathmasker Age: 17 cycles (22 TSY) Napu is a child of the revered Semhet clan, a lineage of powerful and noble Wolven. However, despite her well-groomed upbringing, Napu has rebelled against the ways of her clan, both with her choice of profession and with the way she conducts herself. Being a Deathmasker, Napu creates the ceremonial deathmasks used in Wolven burial rites. As such, she has a lot of unspoken influence in Wolven society. Few wish to cross the person who will be creating the enduring memorial piece of their life. She rarely takes advantage of this influence however, preferring to earn her way rather than have it handed to her. Napu is a wild card, able to switch between a giddy, bouyant personality and a no-nonsense businesswoman. She also has attracted some scorn for the way she dresses, just barely on the appropriate side of modesty. She claims it is because of the heat in her shop, but many see it as yet another way to rebel against the strict upbringing she received. |

Wyllo Orendus Taleweaver Age: 20 cycles (26 TSY) Wyllo has grown up in relative wealth, but it was a very troubled childhood. His parents were murdered when he was a cub, while he only escaped death by virtue of being out playing at the time. His parents had been vocal dissidents against Koriak's regime, and as such they were silenced. Wyllo was adopted by the family of Byrch Huntress, but has never forgotten his birth parents. In fact, avenging their murders has become one of the driving forces in his life, and led to his involvement in an underground resistance against Koriak's rule. Wyllo is one of only a handful of Wolven to earn the surname Taleweaver. He has proven time and again his prowess in telling stories and being a keeper of history, as well as fluency in several languages. He also has some skill with magic, having knowledge of a broad array of 'stage' magic for use in his profession. He also has learned some more practical spells, and his favoured attack is the fireburst spell, which creates a ball of flame that explodes from the caster's hand. |
